The angle of those bars makes my head hurt. I know vintage bikes tended to be designed that way, but ugh.

Sears had a contract with Puch for a while in the late 60s & early 70s, including some touring bikes.

  3. Early 70s. In the 80s I resurrected one of those from behind a shed, combining the best parts of 2 bikes, and commuted to college on it for my first semester. It was a heavy POS but it never quit going.

  4. My first grown-up bike was a Free Spirit. Poorly constructed, the brakes would rub like crazy and it made all sorts of squeaky sounds.

Still, I was pretty proud when I rode my first 20 mile ride on it.
