Came with my i9 wheels but it’s not specified whether they will work with tire inserts. Too me they look like they’d work because hole is recessed but I’m not sure.

yeah these look insert compatible to me
The slots prevent a tire insert from pressing against the valve and preventing air flow. In other words, that valve was specifically designed to mitigate a problem that tire inserts can cause.
Now that you know it’ll work with inserts what inserts are you planning to un and with what tires?
