The best single speed bikes should be simple, but that does not mean they lack practicality or versatility. You just have to be sure you select the right bike for you. In this video, Ed Westrop presents the results of months of testing five of the best single speed road bikes available in 2024. The Elops City Bike is the best single speed bike for those on a budget, the Quella Oxford is best for those who want to go fast, the Steed Thoroughbred is our all round winner, while the Temple Lightweight is best for those who want a more luxury option. However, it’s the Genesis Flyer which stands as the best single speed gravel bike, and also means it’s the most versatile bike on test. Which would you pick?

im actually in the process of build my own gravel oriented single speed except im going to use a 4o mm suspension fork (i got a bad back so chill it this or no bike )
I bought a retrospec balance xl single speed road bike for half price of all those bikes and works perfectly
Back small and head big is faster
Is vegan leather a hipster term for plastic?
Do these bikes support heavy riders (95kg) ?
Fyxation makes some great single speed/ internal geared bikes that are on the affordable end of things. I've bought several bikes from them and they've been solid!
Love my single speed, 1970 viscount kp krisps was a 2×5 but is now a 48/17 single speed with blb cranks and rear wheel and the same from campagnolo front wheel i fitted before, its white with all silver components, tanwall 23c tyres and cinelli pink bar tape, despite the 48/17 ratio i can still get up all hills near me and the really steep ones just build up momentum and then sprint up
Retro Road Bike 1980s, Turned into a fixie.
Is the best thing you can do for the money.
The frames have a history, your also saving old bikes and refurbishing the bikes with better parts than any of these bikes can offer for the price you can upgrade a retro racing bike into a fixie and save it from the scrap yard, will ride better than all of these bikes.
What no mountain bikes? I don't seem to be able to find a replacement for my current Genesis Fortitude and the only option seems to be go custom build. Any suggestions?
Good video
Holy beauties
Just add a rear hub with gears if you need an upgrade. Also quite maintenance free as the drivetrain remains simple. Dirty chain will eat up cheap parts.
So for someone who wants to get a bike with his girlfriend and just kinda ride around town and maybe on some bike trails, also not trying to spend more than like $350US. is a single speed what i should look for?
Hey, thanks for this nice reportage. Is it still possible to find the beautiful Temple Lightweight ?
Could you kindly assist me in selecting the appropriate gear for my bicycle? It is the same color as mine, which is the Genesis 2021 Flyer model. Up until now, I have been using it as a fixed-gear bike with straps and a straight bar. However, I am now considering adding gears to it.
Could you please suggest what cassette, gears, and other components I should consider? I am looking for something that will enhance the bike's performance and allow for longer and faster rides outside of the city. I am particularly interested in products from a local company, and I plan to visit their store on Monday to make a purchase and get everything set up by Wednesday.
If anyone could link me to brands and models for the right type of cassette and gears for the Genesis Flyer and provide recommendations on what I should choose, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you from Sweden!
Best 2024 ss/fixed? Brooklyn metal works is back this summer baby! You cannot beat a Brooklyn easy winner of 2024!
I would go Steed, mainly because i have the same ratio on my Critical Harper and the build is very similar. Simple and beautiful.
Great insights. Thanks for sharing! Think the Steed is definitely the coolest looking bike among the reviewed ones! 🙂
any thoughts on retrospec bike brand?
what about hills and keeping up with your friends with multi speed bikes?
What are the best choices in Canada?
Que ? 🚴 Unas zapatillas jajajaja jajajaja
Zapatillas Men's
Could you remove the stock hoods and brakes and replace these with entry level sram or Shimano hydraulic brakes? This would give better braking and better hoods. Is it standard flat mounts or something proprietary?
Nice bikes, good explanation but way overpriced.
I bought a cromo steel Koga 2nd hand frame. 2nd hand ksyrium mavic wheels. Drop bar and quil stem. 1 fron 105 calliper. Corsa tyres. Bike cost me 140€, weights 6.2 kg and does itvall. Even the option to put gears on it with DT shifters
Built myself a single speed/fixed gear bike for less than a 400€
New frame and fork, but older wheels and other parts!
7.7 kg! I'm happy!
Who needs this…??
Greetings from Croatia 😎
Warum haben Fahrräder keine Schutzbleche und Beleuchtung ? Ist es unmöglich bei Regen oder im Dunkeln Fahrrad zu fahren?
That Quella is a real looker!
flip the hub and be a stronger rider. people are always trying to go lighter and easyer these days.
For the money the Quella should come with bar end brake levers, that's a spec fail IMHO.
250 for a bike is perfect
16:03 Why? Lol! Single speed gravel bike is completely without sense. They're a niche for track lovers or rushing across city streets, with a leather bag filled with good news and bashing people with newspapers. Who the hell want to push it across muddy, hilly or woody fields?
1st Temple liteweight. 2nd Steed, 3 Elops 500. As for the 1st one – wonder how would it be converted into classic 2 by 11?
Vegan leather? It's plastic!
good
