Hybrid, also known as BSO. Everything is a BSO unless it is made of carbon or titanium. Steel? BSO. Aluminium believe it or not ultra BSO.

I would say hybrid, as normally, road bikes would have drop bars (the curved ones)

Yes. I’d say more hybrid than road. I think they call them endurance bikes or something, but maybe that’s only when they put drops on them. It’s all marketing bullshit. Just ride it.
Seriously, your grandparents had road bikes that could handle wide tires, then cocaine and skinny tires came into fashion. Now we need to buy new road frames that can handle wide tires; those are gravel bikes.
The “hybrid” category is a sort of a catch-all for bikes that don’t fall into neat little boxes. Generally, these bikes are perfectly suitable for people who want to ride bikes, but aren’t going to be riding in pelotons, racing, or on serious off-road trails. For what it’s worth, the Escape model is listed under city and hybrid category on Giant’s website.
This is a perfectly fine bicycle. It allows for wider tires than your road racing bikes and a more upright riding position, meaning it’s more comfortable for most people. It has eyelets for front/rear racks and fenders, so it’s suitable for commuting or running errands around town. It has v-brakes, which are simple to maintain and perfectly fine for city riding. And it has 24-27 gears (I can’t tell), which means that you have nice low gears for climbing hills, and taller gears for bombing down hills.
It doesn’t specialize in anything. It’s a bike made for riding. I wouldn’t take this bike on a mountain bike trail or attempt to race on it, but it’ll work for everything else in between. Enjoy!
I started riding with this same bike, its a fitness hybrid, geared similar to a road bike but the geometry is very different, an excellent bike to start riding with as its geared to still go fast on the road but a very comfortable riding position vs more aggressive riding positions of a road bikes.
One good thing is it will probably not lose its value if you really get into cycling and feel you need to upgrade one day or better yet like I did I got really into riding bought a road bike but still keep my hybrid to ride more casual rides and to have a back up if the road bike is broken. IMO you made a good purchase to start riding, I always tell ppl to start on something like this.
