Hey everyone! I’m currently planning a trip for next summer from my home to North Cape, through the UK and Norway, and was hoping to get some recommendations and practical tips.

Here’s the route that I came up with:

  • Home to Hook of Holland
  • Ferry to UK (Hook of Holland – Harwich)
  • Cycling up to Scotland (route in pictures)
  • Island hopping Mainland and Shetland
  • Flight: Sumburgh to Bergen
  • Eurovelo 1 up to North Cape

Please share your recommendations or cool sights that are located near my projected route! I am mainly interested in seeing the beautiful nature that both countries have to offer.

Additional questions:
– Is it worth it to cycle and hop around Mainland and Shetland? What part of the islands should I visit? An alternative would be flying to Bergen from Aberdeen.
– Did I include the right parts of Scotland? I’m not very familiar with the area. Would love to hear some suggestions from people who’ve been there.
– For now I think I’ll follow the EV1 in Norway the whole way. Would you advise a diversion from the route at some point?

  1. Did you consider doing it the other way round, starting in Norway to do the more mountainous bits while it’s still warm?

  2. Can’t see the detail, but it looks like you’re going from Carlisle to Glasgow adjacent to the A74? The NCN1 tracks up the East side on quiet roads and might be better. The west coast of Scotland along the NC500 will be jam packed with camper vans. I’d suggest staying away from it and picking a gravel route through the highlands. Check the badger divide, although rough in places it’s a good alternative. Further north there are routes via Altnaharra that avoid using the nc500
