  1. No. I almost did the same thing. It is worth it to purchase a modern bike with modern geometry and gearing. I would say even a more modern hard rail would perform better.

if you are competent at doing your own maintenance and repairs, you will absolutely get $500CAD of joy out of this, assuming the frame is still good.
if you want to buy because it MIGHT be a good deal, expect there’s a chance there’s another $500CAD of maintenance and repairs looming in front of you the first season of riding, minimum.

derailleur hangers should be easy enough to get from Nukeproof or whoever their small parts supplier is

yes, seal kits etc are usually pretty easy to find, they don’t change too much between iterations, lots of old stock still out there, and even a newer full replacement fork/shock can be found pretty cheap used

  3. pretty good purchase, but try to haggle a bit more. you can install an angle set to make the geometry slacker

It’s a cool bike. If the linkage bushing/bearings are in good shape it isn’t the worst deal. That said older bikes ride very different and it is worth considering something that is 2017 or newer for the improved linkage kinematics, dropper compatibility and wheel size changes.

If the linkages are worn that is a big indication that you are likely to run into some major and expensive repairs.

I also believe that those forks are out of their manufacturer service window – can still be serviced but might need 3rd party providers to do that and might run into trouble finding damper/air spring kits within a few years.

Can check wheels manufacturing or derailleurhanger.com for hanger options – not sure how robust Nukeproof distribution is in Canada but Wheels Manufacturing or North Shore Billet are our main sources for weird hangers at our shop.

Not my style of riding personally, but I’d 100% buy this at $500 for the wife or one of the kids that is a casual mountain biker. I also have a garage full of old parts from the last 15 years and tools to do 99% of any work needed.

  6. If you google Nukeproof Mega Rook derailleur hanger you’ll see they are available (but not cheap. I miss the days of the $10 hanger)

Service kit for the fork should be available… I don’t know how old it is though.

Is it worth $500 CAD? Yeah… like someone else said if the pivots aren’t worn out and the fork/shock are functional. specially with the spare parts. Sell the extras -wheels, cranks, shock- and maybe get another $100/200 so you end up $300 out of pocket. Ride it until you are bored or it breaks. At most you spend a few hundred bucks

  7. I wouldn’t, because I would get upgrade-itis really quickly, but I think it would be hard to find something much better for 500. You could probably find a more modern hardtail used for like 1k, but that’s doubling your budget.
