Ether is one of those parts of The Book of Mormon that even though I have come to understand that being motal , we do need to hear things over again. It's not easy to read. But this lesson did go deeper and I do appreciate these chapters more, especially after going through the last couple of years. The realizations of how blessed we are in our day ❤️ 😊to have The Gospel !!!

I wanted to share how much part 1 of this weeks episode helped , reminded me , I am doing my part ! As all of my kids have walked away from the gospel , I continue to attend : each Sunday on my way into church I pause to send them a mom photo of love and praise , their journey , my forever love , will find them someday coming back into the fold . Remembering is a mixed blessing. I have extremely vivid long term recall which I utilize as well as I can to apply the lessons of the scriptures, and have been very blessed as a result. Unfortunately, that same recall can bring back trauma and regret with a force as potent as when I was first experiencing them. I wonder sometimes if many of the prophets were given a similar capacity for memory. And although they admonished us to "remember" because they knew firsthand how much it could improve our lives, it was nonetheless also responsible for the frequent undertone of melancholy in their words.
Thank you, I needed to be reminded of the love of the Savior at this exact time.
I always learn so much in your podcasts. Thank you Dr Allen for your insights and John & Hank for you insights and examples. I loved the visualization technique and also the wonderful reminder that the Lord is pouring out his blessings through the many temples we have been given, to counteract Satans deceiving ways .
Regarding the consequences of righteousness being peace and prosperity. It's not always the case. Look at how many kings/leaders in these chapters who were righteous were killed or taken into captivity. And not just by anybody, by family members! Yikes. I think we should also be careful not to get into the thinking that just because we are doing everything right and living a righteous life that trials won't come upon us. I've seen so many ppl get into that mindset and then when life isn't easy for them they go into a downward mental spiral of 'well God lied to me' or 'God is not aware of me or He must not care or love me'. We need to remember that life will be easier than if we choose evil, but it won't necessarily be easy and we will still be tried because God loves each of us.

What deep symbolism there is in this verse 1 in chapter 3.
Jared's brother goes to the rock (Jesus Christ) and loosens stones to receive light
(Jesus Christ is the light). He could have picked up some stones. But he went to the rock and made an effort.
The gospel allows us to share in Christ. It makes it possible to see, like Mahonri Moriankumer, Jared's brother. So: "Come to Christ, the rock, take of his gospel and become seeing. When you see, you too will shine.
Going to the rock alone will not bring forth the light.
We must do something ourselves in every way so that the Lord can "activate" it for us.

Key principle I believe: Secret combinations seek to control the government.
I think it is essential that we understand that the Gadiantons/Jaredite combinations were much more than street gangs. It is true that they sought power and wealth through murder, plunder, and theft. Hel. 6:21-31.
But the ultimate goal of secret combinations has been to take control of the government, to take the throne or hold the judgment seat. Hel. 1:9; 6:17-19; 8:28. 3 Ne. 6:21-30; 7:1-7.
Only then could they murder and steal without fear of being discovered or punished–by placing their supporters in high places to protect them. Hel. 2:5.
Satan is always the originator of these wicked plans and secret covenants. Hel. 6:26-30.
Thus, Moroni warns us, in the latter days, to wake up, repent, and get these secret combinations out from among us: see Ether 8.
