I keep telling myself I'd revisit x country but realistically know that there's so many new places I haven't been that I should just go somewhere new. However I keep thinking of how much I enjoyed Central Asia and would love to redo a large part of that trip again.

Are there people who have rode the same region repeatedly despite it being a pretty big flight from home? Does it get boring? Does it still feel like an adventure? I bikepack the PNW region a lot because that's just a weekend trip so it's no biggie, but a flight all of a sudden makes it feel like I'm dedicating valuable vacation days to a repeat trip.

Will Central Asia be my "all inclusive resort trip" because I know what to expect? Will I become boring?!

Anyone else experiencing this crisis?!

  1. No place stays the same forever. Different times of the year and routes can completely change your trip even if the location is known.

Biggest tip is to avoind trying to relive experiences, be open to uncover new layers of the country that you couldn’t notice/enjoy as a first timer.

I did two Big loops in Georgia both were amazing but the first one was a much better trip , due to excitement to all the new stuff

I’ve been to France and will likely cycle France again as a means to get to other countries. I made a few local friends on that trip who i keep in contact with and it would be lovely to see them again.

France is a huge country and there was so much i didnt get to see.

  4. I’ve never ridden in Central Asia but the stories I’ve heard are wild enough that I can’t imagine it ever feeling like an “all-inclusive resort trip”. It’s a big enough place that I’m sure you can find both something new as well as what you enjoyed last time. Personally, I have no issues with repeating a five-star trip.

  5. You are not alone. Went to Kyrgyzstan and Peru Divide this year and intend to return next year. First time doing a rerun so time will tell if the second time around will be as good as the first.

  6. I don’t think it’s possible to repeat a trip. You can repeat a route, but it’s not a theme park; things change, new details emerge as you get to know a place, etc.

do you? for all of it?

not trying to be an ass here, but central asia is a pretty big place and i doubt you’ll have the same experiences across it.

there’s nothing wrong with finding a place, a region, a country, heck a continent to your liking and to come back to it. and rest assured, whether you return to seek similiar experiences or to get to know more about a location, you’ll gain new horizons every time you go.
