The buried secrets on this beach near Belfast are a sign of a much bigger and potentially disastrous problem.

BBC Spotlight Investigation gets into the weeds on several other parts of this story in more detail than I was able to, well worth a watch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0025s1l
Are those water charges elsewhere actually spent on water ?
I doubt it.
"fatbergs". Lovely.
I hope this helps to get the authorities to do something.
What sort of people keep flushing sanitary pads or wet wipes?! Not only have I never, but I've recently switched to reusable. Believe it or not, it's less stinky
eat it.. eat it
Of course Councils will have known this right the way though. So why has it not been fixed. Well because your rates go to central govt they dont go to fixing up your community.
Definitely should not be water charges. That money will not be used for improving water quality or dealing with sewage. We can't trust them to do this.
Belfast is so busy being Nazi that they neglect their shithole.
Had to pause this while watching over breakfast…
Don't put your country down so badly. This is every beach on the planet right now.
"It's kinda buried, and I can understand why"
Because the list is sorted by date order?
12:24 that's the nicest way to say "eat my shit!" I ever heard.
I swim a lot in Belfast Lough, this is sad😞
To save you 3 minutes 30 seconds of buildup, the thumbnail is a tangle of wet wipes from a sewer.
We have two choices unfortunately: Stop pooing or pay more tax. NI Water say time and time again the wastewater system is at capacity and they are underfunded, under resourced, and working with an antiquated system that isn’t fit for purpose.
It’s on that basis that they have put a holding objection on all new housing developments. For which the workaround solution in councils has been to ignore it and approve new housing developments anyway.
Love to see this vid in my feed however the gross topic! I'm proud of my NI roots! My dad was born in Belfast in 1935 off of the Shankill on Silvio road and went to Methody college. I am so proud of me Da & cousins Sean and Louise ❤
heers from Canada, we also have water problems. People are so short sighted. Thanks for the info.
Currently watching on my partner's account on the tv. Was watching you pick up the masses of SRD, thinking "this makes me want to go remove trash from beaches like that, but there would be so much of it that i think i'd end up contributing to coastal erosion". Then i watched a little further and realised it wasnt as silly a thought as i'd thought. That's mad. Again, this makes me want to learn about my own lochs and rivers on the west coast of scotland. I already know from last time that Loch Lomond also has "blue-green algae" blooms often enough that their site warns about them when they occur. We've had to cancel paddleboarding trips due to them, too. I wouldnt be surprised if this kinda thing also happens to the Clyde.
What's going on with women flushing all the obviously non flushable feminine products?!
The UK government does not care about its people. It’s the same issues across the UK
I love hearing the sound 'arghh' repeated loudly hundreds of times for 20 minutes. Hence I love this video.
