Hi everyone,
Back again for a bit more expert knowledge.
I recently received the State Bicycle Co. – GRT55 Carbon Fixed-Gear Wheelset as a gift but a brake kit was not purchased for the new wheels.
Can anyone inform me if I have to buy the SBC specific brake and shoe kit that they sell? Or can I purchase any set of carbon specific brakes for my new wheels!? Any recommendations on good brake kits are welcomed.

In all seriousness, since some places require brakes for a bike to legally be ridden:
State sells rim brake calipers that will do fine with these wheels **AS LONG AS YOU GET CARBON-SPECIFIC BRAKE PADS**. Carbon-specific brake pads are the important part as you wouldn’t want to risk ruining your nice new wheels!
Since you’re getting some hate for using the b-word on this sub, I’m just gonna say that fixed gears can be ridden with or without brakes. Both options are a different style of riding and are equally valid.
Even if you’re new to fixed riding, I don’t feel as if a rear brake makes any difference though, if you want to save some money and only get one set of brake pads.
Get any solid brake and some swisstop black prince pads, best carbon specific pads out there
