I just bought a used Specialized Fatboy. Got it for a good price and registered it with Specialized. Sticker on the frame says manufactured in 2015 but Specialized claims it is a 2017 Fatboy SE.
It has an X5 derailer with trigger shift, which appeared on the 2016 model according to the bike archive. The 2015 models had X7 and grip shifts.
All that aside, I am planning to rebuild a few things;
- Previous owner removed front derailleur and went single chainring leaving it as a 10 speed w/ 11-36. The bike needs more range and low end grunt so I am replacing the drivetrain. I've got a brand new takeoff GX derailer, PG-1230 11-50 cassette and an NX shifter. I have a BCD 104 32 tooth chainring for up front.
Q: Any issues with this setup? Derailer hanger appears to be "Number 65" which should be compatible. Chain line should work.
- I need to put an externally routed dropper post but I'm not sure what the seat post diameter actually is. Specs state 30.6. I'll measure tonight when I get home but it looks thicker than that to me.
Q: What the best externally routed dropper I can grab that will fit? Any concerns on depth?

Your plan looks good to me, although I’d go with a smaller chainring. For snow riding I prefer a 28t or 30t chainring. I’d also add studded tires and a tubeless conversion. PNW makes good externally routed dropper options.
