A follow up to this post. A large screw punctured both tread and sidewall. I rode for a kilometer before thinking the better of it and got a ride from the wifey, since I was close to home. Let's see if this *could have been* repaired roadside….

Wives are the best! I got a lot of pushback here after saying ride from wifey is my backup-plan, so I asked her if she minded. She was like no, it’s like once every year and you do a lot of stuff for me. I just want you to be safe.
If you want a more permanent fix take the tyre of the rim and either glue the plug with super glue or use your sewing machine with a nylon thread and a jeans needle.
