Picked up a 2020 Specialized Fatboy this weekend off Marketplace. Pretty stoked to extend my riding season. I'm obviously brand new to Fatbikes.

I took it for a short ride this afternoon on some ungroomed hiking trails behind my house. The snow is new and shallow. But the ground is solid and was a good starting point.

It still has the stock 27.5×3.8 tires. I was expecting to need to go wider right away, but the jury is out on the necessity at this point.

I mounted a Fidlock and swapped the flats for PD-EH500 hybrid SPD pedals. I place an order for a dropper post and GPS Mount. New saddle is next, but will use my MTB saddle for now. I need to order some Pogies (suggestions welcome). My Rockbros shoe covers worked quite well. Anything else jumping out to anyone?

You’ll want a chunkier tire for the snow. 45NRTH makes excellent tires. Are you set up tubeless?

Fwiw, I bought Pogies right away too and found I didn’t need them until much colder temps than I expected. Get a low pressure tire gauge like the 0-15 psi model from accu-air. I support anyone who wants to get wider, grippier, more supple tires. And personally I love a carbon bar on every bike, but especially in the winter when anything metal feels colder!

  3. Cobrafists are on sale for $60 (from $150) on 45nrths website. They use the bar end attachment so you’ll need to cut your grips or buy open end ones, but these pogies are one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. Just bought a set myself!
