Modern cordage is amazingly strong. I was using some 3mm Kevlar with an engine hoist to lift a 2.0 litre diesel engine out of my van. The actual breaking strain is near a tonne, yet easily threaded and flexible!
Truss forks, double top and downtube, all tech I’ve seen on bikes from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Not really new😂
i'm sure you know of Moulton Bicycles, being doing this for decades
Mini/compact cargo bikes are certainly gaining popularity here in Europe, lots of brands are popping up with a compact or mini cargo offering. Those fidlock integrations looked good, though I'm less keen on integrated bungees/cords in racks as in my experience, bungees lose their elasticity fairly quickly under regular use. Maybe bungee technology has moved on and it's much more durable these days, or maybe it's my fault for always buying the cheap bungee multi packs from a hardware shop instead of posh ones! Either way, I'd rather not have integrated bungees on my racks.
The price for the Monopole is just insane. >7000€ for a basic e Cargo bike is nuts. You can get so many nice bikes for that money.
The diamond shaped bike frame is pretty much a truss (vertically).
Paraphrasing the slogan of Austin TX- “Keep Austin Weird”, let’s say, Keep Cycling Weird!
The one that really caught my eye are the micro cargo bikes. I have two young kids and ride in a city, with a small apartment. This form factor would be perfect for myself if there were configurations where I can carry a 3 year old and a 1 year old to school at the same time (and then onward to work!) all the conventional “kid hauling” bikes are long tails, bakfiets, adding loads of seats to the stem and rear which they inevitably outgrow etc. need something small and light and that fit in an elevator easily!
A while ago I believe, Colnago built a frame with dual tube down tubes.
I can see the racks really become a big hit
Very interesting video, thank you I appreciated your work.. I've ordered a mini cargo bike ,it's a Muli
.Before this I had a reise and Muller load 60 cargo bike. The Muli has a smaller turning circle and because it's under 2 meters it's allowed on the train. I'm Based in Ireland and live in an apartment.
I weird how you crap on GCN when they are by their own account a road cycling focused channel… (but they actually have covered most of this stuff and are creating way more bike packing content these days)… they don’t claim to represent bike packing or alt cycling so I don’t see why you are constantly crying about them. They have their niche, you have yours, others have theirs… quit comparing and complaining they don’t show what you want… that is the entire reason your channel exists… it’s a little tiring…
Mini cargo bikes are the future. Specially in small cities where having a car is not necessary. I got a Yoonit and I love it.
nubbins! just nub it!
Happy to see one of them with all the dirt included, you get to see what it really looks like 😉
Koga did a lot of those doubled down/top tube designs back in the 90s and 2000s.
Nubbins. he he
Haven't got fidlocks for my bike yet because I can't find any insulted bottles for them for winter. Abd don't know whether additional insulators like one from Bar Mitts will work with them.
I’ve had a mini cargobike for 10 years, looks like the world is catching up with me at last 😂😂😂
I’m really liking lightweight integrated rear racks and side rack things that appear to tuck the weight as close to the wheel as possible I’m not a fan of the ugly and large tail fin things. I know a lot of these things require mounts on the stays but still looks great and is always gonna be better than a saddle pack
as a food delivery guy putting a bbs02 on a mini cargo sounds fun, but still needs a little shock dampening to protect the more sensitive food stuffs from all the road chonk
