That’s an awesome setup for a hack. Have you looked at Microshift options or second hand Shimano? I’ve seen RSX brifters for fairly cheap on marketplace in my local area. Or do you have a bike co-op nearby?

Great hack job. No, hack sounds too hokey…this is very good. As a retired design engineer, who often got called to production to change things that just weren’t working right, I love great adaptations to existing components.
I did this but the shifter kept unscrewing from the brake lever everytime I shifted
Funnily enough this is pretty close to what a lot of the brifter designs from the mid 20th century were like
