Saw this on FB marketplace for $45 and love restoring vintage bikes, but I heard the quality of Dawes bikes in the US is ass compared to the UK, so is this one of those bad quality versions? What's throwing me off is the simplex derailleur

I’m not very familiar with Dawes, but it doesn’t look particularly high end to me. Cottered cranks, stamped dropouts, steel wheels, plastic derailleurs, chintsy pedals, it all looks like a mediocre bike to me
That bike gives off a late 70’s – early 80’s vibe. Bikes from that era can be good looking, but if you like to restore and actually ride bikes, I’d recommend to look for a 90’s bike.
