Hi guys, newcomer to gravel world, I took a bad sharp gravel right into my brand new bike 5km from home. Got a flat and had to change the tube. I decided to go tubeless for the first time after that but the hole seemed to be too big for the sealant. I tried with a strip today but was not able to test it on a long ride.
Do you think this could handle like that (I cut it more after the pic) ? Is it too risky to engage in a long gravel ride with that kind of hole ?

I’d go for it but go on a test ride and bring a spare tube
I’d expect this to hold. If not, Park (I think it is) makes a patch where there is a rubber bit that goes through the hole from the inside. Works well.
I’ve never managed to get one of these repairs to stay in. I always patch the tyre from the inside in the end.
It didn’t for me, but i knew right away since it wouldn’t hold air beyond 30psi. Rooting for you that it does, still bring a spare tube 🙂
I did a fix just like this mid ride months ago, worked perfect and haven’t thought about it since!
You only need to trim the plug if it is going to contact your frame. In fact, trimming a plug too short can result in it failing. You’ve cut it too short in my opinion.
Put another plug in there. Leave at least 6mm sticking out. If it doesn’t contact your frame, don’t trim it. Over time the excess will wear down and the plug will fold over.
IMO, plugs are a temporary trailside repair. I always replace with a patch at home.
