  1. Looks like your chain could do with a degrease. Failing that, run it through a cleaner with warm water.

  2. Why so much grease? You’re supposed to put a single drop on each link, then use a cloth to wipe off the excess.

Maybe try dish soap and next time wipe your chain really good after lubing. There should only be lube on the inner links and zero lube on the outside of the chain. You can also try dry (graphite)lube or wax.

I’m not a bike mechanic so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Remove chain, put in coke bottle 1/4 full of gasoline, shakey shakey. Relube and reinstall

Trek degreaser is great and fairly priced. You might consider a dry lube if this bothers you and your chain doesn’t get wet.

  6. Your chain is so dirty that it and the rest of your drivetrain probably needs to be cleaned in a parts washer. After that, get some Rock and Roll Holy Cow and follow the directions. So much easier than hot waxing.

  7. Dawn dish soap

I use Decathlon degreaser, cheapest (other than dish soap) and works really well. I use it with the chain cleaner doohickey.
