He’s a clown. The bike lanes definitely are not what’s causing the traffic in Toronto, and there’s zero chance removing them will improve it at all. Sadly though there’s enough suburbanites that buy it and think bikes are why it takes them longer to get to work
Ford has rallied against bike lanes for as long as I remember. The bill he’s trying to pass has a lot of other stuff in their people are missing (he wants to appropriate land along Hwy 7 to build another highway), and he’s using bike lanes as the distraction to push it through

As a civil engineer and a cyclist, the absence of engineers being consulted about this is glaring in this article, and I would guess the whole process. If they really think they will “get drivers out of gridlock” by adding one car lane in each direction (by removing bike lanes) they did not consult the many equations and studies that exist on these matters.
It also seems like their memory is questionable. The city whose government I work for has removed many car lanes to build protected bike lanes and traffic is not worse than before. Sure, it sucks on some routes, but it sucked before the bike lanes went in, too. I live in the part of the city where we have done the most of this (that’s a coincidence) and as much as people like to complain about the bike lanes, the traffic is equally shitty to how it was before, no worse, and I’ve got traffic counts and intersection data to back that up. I’d be willing to bet my Canadian colleagues also have that kind of data and these people simply didn’t ask for it or are ignoring it.
