Weekends are made for adventure…

We’re back on the rails. This weekend we journeyed south to Guildford — by train, of course, because true adventures never start in the driver’s seat.

But this wasn’t just any parkrun tourism trip. We were on a mission — a surprise mission to visit Freya, Iona’s friend, who had no idea we were coming.

There was just one catch—Storm Bert. 🌧️💨 With winds howling and rain threatening to drench us, the weather threw down a challenge. But what’s an adventure without a little chaos, right? It certainly made for longer train journeys, missed connections and a tough battle at parkrun!

But we made it and Iona was able to walk in on an unsuspecting Freya. In the morning we headed to Guildford parkrun, for a blustery run round a park, but the promised rain largely stayed away allowing us to enjoy the views across Guildford as we ran.

Post parkun breakfast was enjoyed at the nearby Beefeater, which has the big advantage for families of “children eat free:” so great for families (and also for those with big appetites as it’s an all you can eat buffet!)

Then an unusual post parkrun faff afternoon, visiting Freya’s school for a Christmas Fayre, where we enjoyed a different type of playground, bouncy obstacle courses.

The following day we headed to Newlands Corner for a fun morning of tree climbing and exploring, the wind was blowing a hoolie giving the trees a good shaking. There’s a coffee shop there too, so hot drinks all round for warming hands and insides.

Time for goodbyes and an interesting train journey home with delayed trains and missed connections due to “slippery lines” and other Storm Bert challenges, but we made it home in the end, another fabulous weekend of adventure and time with friends enjoyed.

About Ian, Iona and Family
===============================
Each week on this channel Ian (Dad) and Iona share our little adventure experiences, often joined by Ewan (Iona’s older brother) and Ruth (Mum) too.

Our weekends often start with parkrun. Iona is on a non-repeat parkrun tourism streak having now visited over 100 different places since she started parkrunning. But we don’t just do parkun and dash home, we love exploring the area and often use bikes and trains for our travels to keep our carbon footprint low and because it adds to the adventure too. When school holidays arrive, longer adventures are possible with Ewan and Iona both being keen cycle tourists and mountain climbers!

So if you like heading outdoors and your idea of a perfect weekend includes parkrun, climbing a mountain or exploring new places on two wheels then we would love to have you join us on our adventures.

We’d love it if you subscribed so you can follow our journey and hopefully be inspired to get out the door and have your own little adventures. Do like and leave comments on our videos too on questions you might have or ideas for places to explore or adventures to go on.
