I have had a lot of bikes but this one checks all the boxes. I love riding fixed (even though I know it isn’t for everyone!) and was wanting a bike that could use at least 700×32 tires. State Bicycle Co released this bike in 2022 and I picked it up and have been gradually tweaking it so far.
I had full-length fenders for a while, but I actually realized I needed a little less coverage on the front because the fenders would take a hit on the curbs sometimes, so I swapped over to Planet Bikes Hardcore Hybrid fenders. I kept the riser bars and added some slim, long Vans grips so that I can move around on the bars for a few extra hand positions. Had a Brooks saddle but hated having to maintain it, so I gave it away to a friend and now use a cheaper one that I don’t fret about scuffing. The tires are Continental Urbans in 700×35 which I feel is a nice in-between size.
I love how reliable this bike is compared to the ones I’ve owned in the past. Nothing to fret over, I just wipe down the bike once a week and clean the drive train once a week. If something on it is broken, I just take it into the shop and usually have my problem fixed in less than 30 minutes and for less than $20 USD. This bike is comfortable and eats up the miles – I now regularly do 150+ miles getting to and from work with errands!
Planned upgrades: I’m going to try out the Wald 137 basket and hopefully save up enough for a dynamo wheel with lights. We’ll see! But I love this bike to bits and pieces. It’s rarely failed me!
