Hello everybody, I hope you can help me with this matter.

I bought a Trek FX1 Gen 3 Disc yesterday. In order to bring it home, we had to remove the front wheel to fit it in the car. The problem is, when I tried to put the wheel back, I don't have enough space to put the End Cap/Nut at the end.

I cannot even do it with the lever open because I cannot close it after.

I am doing something wrong?

  1. That is a thru-skew. A Trek proprietary design. Meant to use a skewer, but one that doesn’t have the quick release lever (the thing you open and close). It’s fine to use the quick release you have pictured, but you don’t need to use the plastic nut on the other side, since the black teardrop-shaped part on the other side of the fork has the threads inside it. When you close the QR lever amd everything is tight, it’s installed correctly.

  2. This is not a thru-axle. Fork is set up for “ThruSkew” which is some kind of unholy cross between quick-release and through axle. I believe you’re supposed to just tighten and ride – no “cap” required as it’s effectively built-in to that fork – no idea why you were given one as it wouldn’t have been there when the wheel was removed.
