  1. It looks a bit rounded? Is the hex bit a size too small – or are you using an imperial bit in a metric bolt?

    Otherwise, maybe some penetrating oil and more leverage would help.

  2. Breaking the initial tension on these can be difficult. You’ll never do it with that little bit in a screwdriver for example. You need a long Allen/hex key for more leverage 

  3. Rest the crank arm/chainring on a piece of wood and orient yourself so you’re pushing down on the L Allen key to loosen 👌

    May be some loctite on the bolt, put a thin tip blue flame on there for 3-5seconds and then try immediately

    That may be a Torx bolt (I see flutes inside the opening) you are mangling. Shimano switched to them when they started using lightweight fasteners.

    That is a Torx head you need. Hopefully you didn’t mangle it so bad a Torx won’t fit and remove it still. If so, you’ll need an extractor and a new bolt.

  7. My advice is to switch to steel bolts. The aluminum ones are not that much lighter and the trouble you will have with them isn’t worth it to me. There are two camps when assembling. One uses loctite and one uses grease. I’ve always used grease and never had them loosen. Grease allows you to tighten them more without binding, plus allows easy removal. Now the loctite group will chime in and disagree, lol.
