I’m doing my first half iron on Sept 9. I’ve gotten some good training in on my very old and first real road bike 2016 Trek Domane AL 2. I’m in a tri training group and I feel like this bike is soooo slow compared to others. I realize it’s probably me who is slow, but for a well trained person there’s no way I’m THAT much slower, it’s gotta be part bike (averaging 13-14mph).

This is where my itch to buy a used tri bike came in. Even 2 weeks before my event. I found this 2013 cannondale slice for $800 on FB marketplace. Is this a good deal on a TT bike? Is it the dumbest move in the world to consider racing on a bike I didn’t train with. Figured I could get 4 shorter rides in on this bike before the race.

The other catch is that my current bike is a 54 and this Cannondale is a 56. I’m 5’6” and feel current bike may be slightly too small frame wise.

  1. Do you have aero bars installed on your Domane?

Are they riding road bikes with no modifications, road bikes with aero bars, or triathlon bikes?

    As I understand it

Group training rides are on road bikes.

Solo training, add aero bars to a road bike or an aerodynamic tubing road bike, or a dedicated triathlon bike.

Dedicated triathlon bike for race day.

    Or browse or ask r/triathlon.
