Just looking for some opinions here because.. this is a new one for me. I bought a Surly Karate Monkey yesterday from the original owner. The guy had his “buddy who knows more about bikes” set it up “tubeless.” Shocker, the tires wouldn’t hold air when I got there but the thing looked brand new and I haggled it down enough that I was comfortable buying the bike with some unanswered questions and without being able to ride it.
It had been sitting for a few years, so I figured I would see if it simply wasn’t holding air because the sealant had dried out. Lo and behold, whoever set it up did so with a rim strip and no tubeless tape.
My question is – seeing how much sealant got into the rim and what looks like decent corrosion on the nipples. Should I just clean this up, tape it and rock it as is? Or should I do something to try and make these more serviceable in the future when they need a tension or true?

Oof, hopefully the sealant didn’t actually make it into the rim (or at least not in bulk), but even if it did, that’s just some extra weight. Wheel should be rideable but damn that is annoying.
I’m worried that with all that gunk, getting rim strips/tape to provide an air tight seal will be difficult.
