  1. A chain keeper. Wolf Tooth sells them for gravel bikes that should fit most roadies. I’m sure there’s others out there. Can also just slap an old front derailleur on there and use the limit screws to fix it in a set alignment.

    I have two of those. Usually I use a derailleur, but I have a bike without enough clearance. The guard can be installed in a few different ways.

  3. A narrow wide chainring is the most important part of 1x retention, and a clutched rear der. Is the second most important.

    Most mortal riders shouldn’t need any retention devices….
