  1. I have been following your injury on Instagram. Getting injured is not fun. It ends up being a time to realize what we take for granted. I am getting handy to 60 and the thing for me is to not dwell on it. I have broken bones, had many sprains, torn this and that. You can literally get messed up just walking on a sidewalk. This past summer, my wife broke her ankle getting out of a chair on a beach and stepped on her shoe. She is a dancer (pro in the day, and instructs now), so that was a rough couple of months for her physically and mentally. All the best to you Juliet, you will come out on top. Cheers.

  2. Awful crash, glad you are home. Had an almost exact broken elbow/busted ribs in a multi-day off-road race, but solo and no cell or SOS. I nearly passed out from blood loss before I finally met a guy who drove me the final hour to a town. I lost nerves in one finger, but it moves and I can still ride, so grateful for that. It takes time but you will make it work somehow. We are fragile and strong. Wishing you all the best recovery!

  3. I'm sorry to hear that you went through all that suffering after the accident. I hope you recover to perfection, I know with therapy your fingers movement will come back to 100% normal. I'll pray to God for your well being. Rest and take very good care of yourself. Don't feel like It was your fault, shit happens.

  4. Wow….what an experience. Crazy how the crash that shouldn't be a big deal becomes a big deal. I've gone through it and had a buddy go through it…BUT….not as bad as that. Get well soon!!!!

  5. I've lived with a constant post pins and needles feeling (a constantly slightly numb sensation in the fingers of one hand, as if a thin layer of wax hampered the movement) since 2001. Nerve recovery might not be 100 percent (unlikely) and can take ages (in comparison to other injuries). Despite the nerv issue, power is largely back. The take-away has been the reminder to better not crash again in the way I did. (The burning sensation in the hand is also reported as a typical effect of shot wounds, it's similar to a phantom pain, well, it is one!) Good Luck (with your post crash live)

  6. As a professional bicycle messenger for 10 years, I observed that when flying over my handlebars and looking down at the area where I was going to land, I learned that;
    the horizontal surface when one is outside in the outdoors should be referred to more appropriately as, "the ground ", while the horizontal surface inside a building, or indoors would be more accurately described as, "the floor".
    Rubberside down. Good luck.

  7. As a lifelong mountain biker, ice climber, and sport bike rider, I've managed to have a few serious injuries along the way. Sharing the full story each time has been cathartic. It takes a bit of time to process the event, which can be an oddly detached experience in the moment, or even nightmarish if it's severe enough. It takes a while to come back from these things, but as I am sure you know that rehab and physio is going to be your new job for a few months. As a highly trained, and experienced medical massage therapist from Canada, I'd echo the previous advice regarding the elbow, it's range of motion, and the importance of getting a qualified and experienced therapist to assist and guide you in your recovery. I damaged my median nerve once in a bouldering fall onto jagged rocks, (stitches required), and I lost sensation in my palm and some of my grip strength, but it did return after a few months. I know you are getting a lot of advice, and shared stories, but just be persistent, patient, and above all stubborn in your recovery.

  8. My wife broke her right elbow in August, it took a few weeks, but she has recovered completely. She had pretty much the same problems with finger movement. Just give it time.

  9. I feel for you, I know, it's super awful! I shattered my elbow a couple of years ago & am held together with plates & screws. You'll get there so please stick with the physio. It took me about 6 months to be able to touch my face but a year to ride again. Good luck & stay positive as this really helps 👍

  10. Wishing you a speedy recovery. A lady at my running club had a nasty accident on a mountain bike while riding off road which left her in quite a bad state with a broken pelvis, broken arm and a head injury but made a full recovery. I hate blood and I'm not keen on helicopters so I would have reacted like you did most likely.

  11. Sounds a really traumatic experience and I hope you're feeling ok about things now. If you need to talk to somebody about the experience to help process it then there are people who can help, including via your GP. It's an important part of recovery, and dealing with recovery from injuries, that we have that support. Also a good reminder for cyclists to carry basic first aid kits with some trauma bandages, cohesive bandages, and crepe bandages etc.

    Really wish you all the best for your recovery and please do make sure you take it easy and talk it through when you need to. xx

  12. Hi Juliet, just watched the video about the crash. It sounded a nightmare and a proper ordeal actually getting to the hospital. I recently had a crash and ended up in hospital with concussion and like you I spent a lot of time after reflecting on the what if's, could I have done something different. It's difficult not to reflect on your actions prior to the crash. Put it to bed, focus on your recovery and plan for the future. Stay Positive and keep Smiling 😊 your Stronger mentally than you actually know. It takes time but you'll be fine. After all Cycling is a Fantastic Sport, Pass time and we Love, but it does come with it's risks, and we do at times push the boundaries and crashes/accidents do happen.
    Stay Safe & Take Care 🚴👍🚴😊🚴

  13. I had my hardest crash in 34 years of mtb in August. A trail I've ridden hundreds of times in a place where I would never expect to crash.
    Hope you have a quick recovery.

  14. So sorry to hear about your crash, thank you for sharing. I'm a cyclist who races crits and sometimes the worst accidents happen when we least expect it 😢
