Just noticed this huge gap between the left arm and the bottom bracket. Is this normal/fine or do I need to close this gap? Would I just tighten this with a hex key?

Completely normal.
It’s fine but whenever you get your next service on your bike or you service it yourself make sure to get a bb that fits your cranks well. And square taper bb are relatively inexpensive!
