This is a Fit PRK with a new headset. It has always felt a little slow in steering and has made this noise, even with the stock headset. It's in no way unrideable at my level, I just wonder if there is something I can do to fix this or prevent it from getting worse. Yes, everything was taken apart, lubed, and re-tightened (but not too tight). Thanks in advance

What could be causing this sound and tension in steering

Loosen the pinch bolts then the top bolt maybe too tight…if it’s hard to turn it’s more than likely too tight…it should spin pretty freely.

  2. – Bearings shot.
    – Top bolt too tight.
    – Missing compression ring.
    – Put together wrong.

Steerer tube may also be bent, but not likely. Worth looking at.

Bad bearing or too tight. Could be caused from over tightening your stem cap and crushing a bearing. Bars should spin really easy, but have no play in the head tube when you tighten your pinch bolts, and I never tighten my cap after I do my stem bolts.

  4. Could potentially be the dust cap contacting your headtube. Would just have to add one or two of the super thin spacers that are normally included in headsets under the cap.

Weird cause it happened with the stock ones and then new ones that came with the headset. It never stopped making this sound

  6. Usually a sign of crushed Bearings from my experience, but that is also paired with a pretty distinct feel with rotating the bars.
