    Hello,
I received this old Gerber bike from my father, it was lying in the garage for 20 years. The bike should be from the mid 80’s. I quickly fell in love with it and used it for ~2 weeks, I didn’t even had the time to clean it. I got into an accident and the frame is now destroyed. Could you guys help me find the vale of this bike before it was all bent and scratched ? It’s mainly to see if the assurance isn’t trying to take advantage of me

All the components of my bikes are Suntour Superbe Pro, even the chain and the seat post. I think that it was used in races before my dad bought it, but I’m not sure.

For info, I live in Switzerland which might up the price a bit. I found some guy with the same frame, Dura-Ace component and a brand new paint job trying to sell his for 1500.- . I don’t know if he sold it or if he just took down his ad.

I would be grateful for any help you can provide. Thank you!

I’d estimate $850 or so for the full bike, but most of the parts are preserved. I can’t say what the frame was, though.

  3. On the downtube/seat tube there should be a marking saying what kind of steel tubing the bike was made with, which would give a better indication of price. Without this I would guess in the $500 range.

You might be able to get away with claiming it’s worth $1500 based off of that ad though, especially if you can find others in that territory for this bike or similar.

  4. Il you know a good welder he could change those bars if you wanted to save it out of sentimental value

Edit : I’m not even a really good welder but I could do it, it’s not so complicated, it’s quite a lot of work, plus the paint, but it’s rather doable

From the first pic, it looks like it was built by MC Escher.

Might be worth a lot to art fans.

Oof, sorry about your crash, I hope that you’re okay.

I can’t chime in about pricing the frame, but Superbe Pro is fairly sought after – many consider it to be the best group set of the pre-STI era. You can make a pretty penny parting it out and selling the components on eBay.

  7. The frame has little to no value as it is bent where the head tube meets the down tube, the components maybe 200-350 USD if someone really wants them.

$1000 for an insurance claim. $600 on the market. Between the two if you parted it out and sold the frame at $300??

I realize no one will buy the frame now, but you might want to hang it in the wall in your garage if it’s got sentimental value from your dad.

  9. Take it apart, clean the parts with glass cleaner or alcohol if needed. Sell the small stuff on eBay or on a forum. The front wheel’s rim may be damaged, and the handlebars should be eyeballed bends in on the ends. I would not expect it is worthwhile to resell the front wheel, frame or fork. Even the seatpost is pretty classy so it is worth taking apart. Just don’t invest too much time in perfect photos or anything as this is well used stuff. -just honest photos of all views.
