When an Australian tv channel sensationally dropped a story that Phil Liggett was retiring from cycling commentating… I figured I’d best investigate. Here’s the truth about Phil Liggett’s retirement plans.
I first met Phil at the 1990 Tour de France, then again more than a dozen years later after I started PezCycling News, and we’ve talked and interviewed several times in the years since then.
Once again, Phil graciously agreed to chat and clear up the mis-information about his “retirement” – (spoiler alert – he’s NOT retiring any time soon) – but before we got there, we took a fun trip down memory lane to the 1990 Tour de France, and a look back at how journalists covered the race in the days before the internet.
