I'm new to bikes. I just bought this at a pawn shop for ($125) and needed it to get around. Cleaned it up a bit including the chain. The gears don't work. I don't know what they're for or how to fix them but i'll do it soon. Buying chain lube soon.
When I bought this, I noticed that the seat post was too high for me, so I forced it down (had to break a small black piece on the seat post, so now the seat just spins and won't stay put.😅)I made it low
enough so that I can reach the floor with my feet.
Should I buy a new seat post or a whole new bike?
I'm 5'2. On a low budget atm so any recommendations to fix this or make it nice will help.😌

You’re going to blow your knees out with a seat that low. I’m not sure about these cruiser styles but typically you don’t want to be able to touch the ground while seated. I would just buy a brand new bike. You’re going to spend way more on trying to get this operable
See if there’s a bike coop in your area. They can help you sort your bike out mechanically, especially the seat/saddle in a more comfortable position. Nothing wrong with this bike that a little TLC won’t fix!
