An epic day out, but not for the faint-hearted! Last weekend I rode the Glorious Gravel, Lancashire event. The long route had a bit of everything; single track, bridleways, roads, lung busting climbs and gnarly descents. The food and organisation was pretty good too! Salter Fell Road was everything it was promised to be!

  1. Well done Julie. That climb from your 2nd pit stop (our 1st) was really tough. Just glad we didn't eat to much which was a shame because there was so much lovely food. Brilliant event and we are really looking forward to Saturday especially as the forecast is looking so good 🤞

  2. Hi Julie. We chatted near the beginning of the ride (Holmfirth, tyres, your channel and others’ click bait). Definitely the right call to keep both hands on the bars for that chunky techie descent off the back of Salter Fell – a road whose gravel flattered to deceive for the first few km only to turn into something only those with full sus could enjoy. But epic indeed. And, like you say, satisfying to complete on a gravel bike. Overall a cracking route and day out.

  3. Well done that is a challenging route, I think you did the right thing on the Salter Fell, there are two tricky bits we rode earlier this year I was on the ti Camino with 45 mm cinturatos on, it was a dry day although a bit wet on the ground, and it was hairy as you had to keep momentum but I was being bounced like a ping pong ball. Luckily my mate Paul and I got good lines and made it through okay but on another day we could easily have decked it. My mate John walked some as he is infinitely more sensible than we are. There’s always another day.

  4. A lovely little post Julie. I know you mentioned how good your partner is with the sound; but I can't believe that you have the energy and capacity to talk, smile and laugh out loud; whilst cycling up gradients (that most folk would struggle to even get up) and it still sound clear and coherent!

100km is a long ride to do in one day (have I got that right?); how many hours did that take you? Knowing your level of fitness; I'm guessing, about an hour!🤣

I know that we're in the realms of "gear porn" 😳 here; but I would have liked a naughty little shot of those 45mm tyres on your Camino😉 (wolf whistle)..haha!

On a serious note though; you made completely the wrong decision, to not film one handed; the most technically challenging, off road part of the loop; in the pouring rain!

Think of the potential footage/cycling carnage 🤕 for a "Jackass" style blooper reel that you missed out on!?! Think of your viewers!🤫

I am completely joking! (You knew that!) Everyone loves a bit of fun and excitement; but you have to play it safe, and air on the side of caution. Especially when you're in the middle of no where!

You made completely the right (and responsible) decision to concentrate on the ride at that point, in my humble opinion. Keep NOT taking risks Julie!

And from a completely selfish perspective; we, your adoring viewers, don't want you injured, and unable to make any more or these inspirational and smile inducing posts!

Bless you! Haha..Can't wait for the next one!

    Take care Julie. 😊

  5. Nice video. I wanted to do this ride but a family illness got in the way. I've now signed up for the Glorious Gravel Unlimited season pass for next year so I'll be doing a load of their events hopefully including this one. The year ticket is an absolute bargain.

  6. Im really enjoying your channel & videos , im contenplating a bikepacking trip this summer – im kind of wondering if my bike will be adequate, i have a Cotic Rocket which is a steel framed full suspension and heavy! – which is out! But i have a Orange Crush hardtail which i think may be ok, but i think i will be stuck to carrying the majority in a back pack as i dont think a panier rack will fit on the crush. In any case thanks for the great content!
