  1. If I had a gravel bike I'd just run SPD XC pedals and use my MTB shoes, even keeping my cleats shoved all the way back like I do for MTB.

  2. "Gravel specific".. that means mountainbike shoes.
I use mountainbike shoes for everything, from road to gravel to mtb. But they need to be super stiff!

  3. Depends on the gravel. Out here in BC things get technical quickly so I would use my MTB shoes. But If I was just doing towpaths all light to gravel I would use road shoes maybe.

  4. I just use my Uvex work boots. I hate clip less pedals, the amount of time I forgor about them and tried getting off my bike only to end up falling like a log is way more than a few times. Flat pedals with pins is the way to go for me

  5. Always thought those gripless monstrosities a bit of a fetish item… but then again I dont subscribe to the clip in an lycra cult 😉

  6. I no longer ride road shoes or pedals on any bike. Time Atacs on all my bikes, road or MTB. One exception: flat pedals on my 51 year old Raleigh Sports, 3spd IGH, 3-spring Brooks B73 saddle. My town bike extraordinaire!😁

  7. In the days before SPD, I met a guy who used Look pedals on his mountain bike with a piece of old tyre glued to the underside of his shoes!

  8. Tbh I don’t have the budget to drop a load on a decent pair of MTB shoes. I always ride road shoes when gravel riding. I just do one thing and it works perfectly on every ride and race….

Get good and don’t fall over

  9. Flat pedals all day for me I’m afraid. Also shorts and a t shirt and I’m not an Olympic athlete, I’m just going out for a cycle, maybe a picnic and possibly even a pint..

  10. I ride Time ATACS on everything. I started with them on Mtn bike, now on road, touring and gravel. Makes no sense to me to have different pedals/shoes/cleat setup for different bikes.

  11. Who uses SPD shoes and clipless pedals ? Cycling should be about casually riding and having fun, not about who has the more expensive gear or who's the fastest… if i want to be fast on a casual ride i take my delimited custom e-bike and go 70km/h while my friends struggle pedaling

  12. Oh and one more thing. It is roadshoes where you can put SPD-cleats. Don't.

It is desperately uncomfortable to walk more than 2 meters. Use spd-sneakers or something like that if you don't want to use gravel-shoes.

  13. Keep catching front wheel with my spd shoes. Don’t want to shift cleats too far forward and be “on my toes” all day. Any one else had this problem any recommendations for shoes to fix it?
