I picked this Cannondale up for $170 yesterday. I don’t know much about bikes and am just getting into cycling. The gearing is extremely tough for hills. How difficult would it be to DIY change the rear cassette? Also did I do ok at that price?

Changing the rear cassete isnt that big of a task, but you do need specialty tools. I would reccomend either just riding more and getting stronger or replacing the chain, cassete and front chainrings with easier ratios.
Easy to change cassette you need a chain whip and cassette lockring tool. Make sure # speeds match and if you get more teeth adjust your chain to be longer or put new longer chain on
