Well, the up side for Norway is it is skinny, so only one line north is needed. Also, the landscape is beautiful, so once you deal with the long, deep, and tall, itโs a wonder.
Maybe Switzerland can help Norway with the mountain problem? We are not long and there are no fjords, but we have mountain and a pretty good train system.
Hahaha actually the bridge that turns into a tunnel is an engineering marvel – and it was VERY hard to and EXPENSIVE to do. I don't think it holds any records anymore – but at the time it did – and it ALMOST went horribly wrong when it got flooded by a collapse while it was being constructed. However – the construction was actually the optimal method for building across Storebรฆlt – so it wasn't an "accident".
In the US, we have the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel…It's a bridge that becomes a tunnel halfway through….or tunnel that becomes a bridge if you're going the other way.

Another problem about Norway's railroads are that they don't go further north than Bodรธ/Fauske. And that's only halfway through Nordland.
