Bikes for Migrants in Brooklyn

A group of us are mobilizing to repair and provide bicycles to asylum seekers in Brooklyn, NY.

Asylum seekers are being forcibly evicted from shelters every 30 days. This constant displacement throughout boroughs systematically strips them of security and opportunity by disrupting their access to education, work, and community.

The city’s public transit system has become increasingly hostile and unaffordable, especially for Black asylum seekers, who are targeted by police and the National Guard under Eric Adams’ administration. They are consistently harassed, interrogated, and penalized with tickets when they can’t pay the fare.

Bicycles can grant asylum seekers autonomy, mobility, and a means to reclaim some freedom in a city that continuously denies it. We also offer ongoing support with repairs and workshops on bike maintenance to foster self-sufficiency and resilience.
