I have a fat BSO that I use for riding around the woods behind our apt. There are no trails apart from some basic ones i’ve “made”, it’s mud or snow so the fat bike works well. It’s a cheap ($150 on craigslist a couple of years ago) piece of junk (that is now also rusty) but it’s fun and single speed so a bit less to go wrong. The chain got loose and in trying to fix that I stripped the axle. How hard would this be to fix? Axles are cheap but living the apartment life I’m short on tools and am not sure how I get the (BMX-esque) free wheel off. I could take it to the LBS but it’s a bit of drive and the bike heavy f***er to get in the car.

I tend to look for a cheap “for parts or repair” bike and swap the rear wheel. It’s easier than rebuilding and costs less.
