A bit of culture, a dunking in the canal and a fallen tree! We had questions taking our narrowboat through Hillmorton Locks in Rugby and found some answers to the apparent random words on the lock gates. Join us on narrowboat One Day More as we head north through Rugby on the Oxford Canal.
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

Great video on channel keep up the great video thanks lee
That was some beautiful scenery! Even in the summer it's still green where you're at. I laughed when Poppy fell in the water. She probably smelled like wet dog for awhile! Finally cooling down to the 80's in over a month! Now we need rain.
Beautiful scenery!!
Do you know where and how the football got its points. I imagine it was after it got picked up and carried. My husband was dotty about Rugby but never told me any story about pointed ends. He spent hours and hours watching it.
Can you explain how having a car works?
Hi Caroline, I have a Q for you: In German we have two handy words for slow and fast motion (as when you speeded up the footage of you opening the sluices at a lock) "Zeitlupe" (slow-) and "Zeitraffer" (fast-, as here), but "fast motion" doesn't sound right to me. What do you call it? Plus at 16:25 when you passed Russell & Helen – Poppy barks a polite "Hello" over to Helen, that dog is such an utter delight.
The cut looks full …
Another fabulous video to watch whilst eating my weeties – geez that’s a LOT of muddy towpaths and maybe a chain saw might be a good bit of kit to have, cheers Swanny
Going by the video, you guys had a great day, plus the weather was on your side. Beautiful scenery Its videos like this, makes me really think about going to england and renting a narrow boat for 2 weeks. Im going to have to do alot of research first. Thanks for a great video.
Hi guys. Can I ask what the song is that you end your flog with, I really like it. Keep up the great vlogs. They are really good.
Love the poem
Very tranquil ride
As ever your vlog (dogs) bring a smile to the dial – Nice readiing from Alex… Thanks Pete and Caroline..
Loved the vlog as always. I bet everybody counted your strides. I certainly did. I agree with the earlier comment about your outro song. I love it. Keep safe and well.
It seems like you have a lovely boating community. I suppose you will keep coming across the same people some of which will now be friends.
Watching from HTX! 🇺🇸🤠
What a beautiful cruise and the doglets soooooo cute. Bless them. Made my morning. Thank u so much. ❤
lovely Vvlog guys so nice and peaceful and the music was beautiful…..yeah tell Alex his reading was awesome./..have dobe this many years ago.. can't believe hubby says we did it 30 years ago…..OMG………….. I feel old all of a sudden…….I said 1992…… well close too….. I so want to do this again…. go travel to the uk for at least a year or two… get a narrowboat live on one for a year…. meet all the people I watch on utube…… maybe one day….. I just still feel inside when I was travelling around europe in my 20/30's…. lol….thanks guys for your lovely Vvlogs love watching you, can't wait for when you are with fran and Rich one of the first couples I started watching on utube many years ago, along with Well deck dairies.. Mark and Deborah..
I've seen the carved writing in other vlogs but no one explained it as well as you did. I thought maybe they were random but instead they are altogether a poem. Alex read it beautifully. When anyone gets near Rugby I always hope they make it to Rugby Boats. I watch their sale videos sometimes and I love seeing Bumble! He's a great representative for the operation. ❤
HELLO BOTH GOOD TO SEE YA ON HERE
Your videos are wonderful. So many canal vloggers spend most of their video time with the camera pointed at them while they talk. Viewers don't get to see much of the canal (except as a rear view behind the talkers). Thanks for doing your commentary as voiceovers and letting us enjoy the forward views of the canal!
THEM BIRDS SOUND JUST GREAT
Thanks for taking a lovely shot of our boat NB Narrow Escape.. loved being on that stretch of canal, so peaceful and quiet. Xx
Love the poem! never heard that before 🥰 really makes you think how impressive the locks are and how much history is in them.
Really well put together and read 😊
Wow the birds in your video were singing their little hearts out.
Ewwwwwww yes the towpath can be wet, flooded and soggy, especially when had a lot of rain , all good this week plenty of ☀️☀️☀️☀️🌞🌞🌞 sun.
I found the material for your pressies, I brought some bounding wool at Hobbycraft this morning. On the last bit now.
Take care ❤ X X X
💋's to Hamish and Poppy X X X
I have binded the top and around the corner, I have the beginning of a blister so will stop for a bit X
Lovely countryside. Lovely canal. Looks like the canal trust needs to come along and clean up along the canal.
I agree completely with Roger . Your videos have the right mix of the two of you and the boat and scenery. Thankyou.
We hired boats from Clifton Cruisers in 1986 and 1992, our 2nd and 7th cruises; nice to see they are still in business. And on Sept. 24, 1986, we moored almost exactly where you did at Barley Mow and Bridge 50! Enjoying your videos.
Hello- yesterday i took my first sort of ‘narrowboat’ ride….we loaded on the Falkirk Wheel… headed up to the next lock, turned around and down again… hope that’s not all i ever get to do!
Hi Pete and Caroline. Great video. You featured the Barley Mow at Newbold Tunnel. We did the Warwickshire Ring starting at Napton last October 2023. We stopped at the Barley Mow – great pub. Good luck. Howard and Sue
Hi, Thank you for the video. I was watching it this morning moored up in Bidford when I looked up at a passing narrowboat that looked just like yours! We are moored up next moor but one on Rainboat.
3:00 what is the name of the map book you are using?
Finally catching up with vlogs now I have made my list of things I want to add to the boat 😂😂😂, mark might pack his bags 😅. Lovely vlog as always, you know how to make me chill ❤❤❤❤
Hello Pete and Caroline we have been busy last few weeks not on our boat. We have binge watched your last few. They are great so well edited and interesting. Hope to catch up with you all if you return north? ❤ Ruth and David
