You can thank me later for this but here what you gotta do:
1: Find an old backpack
2: Find a cheap plastic trash can/bin that fits snugly inside
3: Combine
4: Rig to bike rack
I know, I know, I’m a genius but necessity is the mother of invention and I’m just a broke guy looking for a way to haul my gear for cheap. Really though this trick will work just as well, if not better, than real panniers.

diy low cost bickepacking equipment is what i like best!
It’s all fine and dandy until you get a standing wave that wobbles you off your bike on a steep descent. I’m not advocating for expensive panniers, it’s just you may want to find a way to batten those down better.
