This is part 2 of our Berlin tips for tourists – what you should avoid when visiting the German capital.
Can you think of any others?

Yeah it depends. Berlin is a huge city with completely different subcultures and groups in different areas, and I personally, living in Berlin-Pankow, have never had any server not speak german. It's generally regarded normal that people can speak german, but Berlin is less strict that the rest of Germany, so there may be some servers who dont spreak german.
Repeat after me: DONT ACT LIKE A COMPLETE IGNORANT WHEN VISITING FOREIGN COUNTRIES!
Your host does not have to adopt to ignorant visitors. Not even if they are Americans.
If you wanna have it like it's at home, stay there. Please.
And perhaps consider learning a tiny bit of basic communication, just out of courtesy. Oh, German is that hard to learn?? Not according to the US army's language classification: It's in the second most easy class of languages to learn for an American. Russian, Arabic or even Korean, Mandarin, or Japanese – THAT'S hard to learn.
If you think otherwise, how come e.g. German visitors cannot get real bread, or French ones decent cheese in the USA?
