I’m new to MTB, and I’m undecided, need some advice, I’m going to be using a bike more for canal banks and pavement and some up and down dirt trails. Which bike would be suite someone like me? The Talon 1 is going for $500 and Trek is going for $800. Let me know what you guys think please.

Both are good. Buy the cheaper…you can always upgrade
I like the rock shox
The trek has much better bang for your buck in nearly every aspect. Dropper post, better fork, thru axle frame, more modern gear range. You’d spend way more buying the giant and trying to upgrade it, and even then it won’t be as modern as the trek.
Trek for sure
100% go for the Trek. Better wheels, much better fork, better brakes, plus it has a dropper.
Put it this way, if you don’t get INTO(!) mountain biking you’ll have spent a little more to get a slightly better bike but it’ll ride better and that alone will make you want to ride it more. If you get the Giant it might save you a few bucks now but it won’t ride as nice, and if you do get INTO(!) mountain biking it’ll cost you a lot more than $300 to get those upgrades.
Trek! Definitely worth it for the goodies it comes with
Giant all day
I have the exact same Gaint talon. I would recommend it 100%.
My biggest gripe with the gaint is how the wheels lock into the bike/fork. Unlike trek, in which you align the holes and put a rod through it to fix the wheel. Gaint bike has a semi circular thingy which you put on the wheel and tighten it, which are not that secure when dropping small jumps. (Both the bikes are not meant for bigger ones).
Other than this, it is a fantastic bike.
Roscoe, all day everyday
If you are riding mostly pavement, and only occasionally hitting east dirt paths, I would save the money and go with the Talon. If you think you might like to progress into more difficult trails, and might upgrade components in the future, the Trek is probably a better choice. Both are reputable brands that make solid products.
If you like going over the bars, get the Giant.
Welcome to the club ! Any decent MTB is a blast. If you can swing the $800. The TREK is the superior bike. Have fun out there 👍
Whichever feels the best when you’re riding is the one you’ll WANT to ride.
The Trek Roscoe every time.
A giant equivalent would be a Fathom, not the Talon you’re looking at
Roscoe
Get the trek, the dropper alone makes it an easy decision, one of the best innovations in cycling .
