I just received this used bike which I bought online, it's a 2022 specialized epic evo.
I'm worried about those two chips in the frame. One is under the bottom bracket and the other one is in the rear triangle.
Seller is offering to refund some money instead of me shipping back the bike. I'm more inclined to return it, but I was curious if any of you has any idea if this could just be cosmetic damage or the carbon is damaged for sure.
Also any idea if damage like this could be repaired and a ballpark of how much would it cost?

Looks more like chips to the gel coating to me. I think they’d probs be fine but keep an eye on them. They can normally be repaired by carbon repair specialists if they do end up being structural
The stay looks to have a hole clean through it, the DT one isn’t great either.
Personally, I’d want a hefty discount, and then I’d get the repair done professionally (okay I wouldn’t, but I know plenty of people who could do this repair for me) otherwise ship it back.
These are notoriously difficult to diagnose, never mind over the internet. The rear triangle MIGHT be ok, but the down tube looks bad. Send back 100%. This is not what you paid good money for.
Or, if taking a discount, only take it if it is enough to cover carbon repair and diminished value ($500 at LEAST).
I’ve had multiple Carbon frames fail without any known issue, so I personally would return it if you can. If you’re stuck with it, I’d have it repaired professionally. You can buy DIY Carbon kit if you are handy with things like that, especially since it’s an easy paint color to match in areas that aren’t super visible.
Usually it is hard to tell from pictures. In this case, it’s pretty clear that frame is damaged and needs repairing.
I would return it.
