BB integrated gearbox (but standard size)

I came across this project promising a 2x gearbox as a drop-in replacement for standard bottom brackets. It's sad their Kickstarter didn't receive the relatively modest funding and I don't know what's the status. Have you had the chance to set foot on something like this and what are your general thoughts?

I'm aware of the Classified hub but that requires too many compromises IMO.
