So i went to a mechanic, it was clear, that we‘d go for a 10-51 in the back. (I have serious damaged knees, so i can‘t push to hard on 10-20% elevation)
But i was not sure to what go for in the front.
He told me to buy a new crankset, which i didn‘t want to, since i just bought the grx one in june.
So he said: i can put on a absolute black oval chainring, but i have to fix it.
So you can make that work?
Yes i can!
So here we are. The chainline is an absolute nightmare, but it works.
Banana for scale.
In the end i‘m just thankful that it works!

You can probably fix the chain line with some spacers and longer bolts.
What is the problem here? Why did he tell you to buy a new crankset?
Someone explain chainline to me like I’m 5, where’s the issue here?
Imo the crosschaining is not that bad. However i can understand why your mechanic is hesitant. They just don’t want to take blame for any unusual setup
