I want a freecoaster. I feel like 90 percent of the times I don’t land a 180 is because i forget to crank backwards. I love the way freecoaster tricks look. Unsure if I should just stick with the cassette until I’m a better rider or get a coaster now?
Am I ready for a freecoaster?

i rode a freecoaster for a few months before going back to cassette imo cassette is much better
They’re totally different animals, and each requires a different riding style.
For example- when you done with fakie and went to half-cab, you stopped pedaling backwards and let the engagement of your cassette lift the front wheel.
That won’t work on any Freecoaster, regardless of your slack setting, because freecoasters don’t engage right away. You literally can’t use the cranks to modify tricks anymore and will have to actually fakie hop, hold your balance better, etc.
That being said, I think it made me a much better rider. Didn’t realize how dependent I was on crank engagement until taking it away- I ride better now and the tricks look smoother.
You have enough bike control, no reason you cant ride with one, especially if thats what riding style you want to pursue.
I currently flip back and forth. If you’re just Linda a new just stick with cassette, learn to fakie further with it and it will definitely help when you transition to free coaster.
Cassette gang I like pedaling backwards so yeah rider preference
Can you half cab?
I haven’t ridden in a while… I will be getting back on it soon but the only reason I never could is because of the free play when you start peddling… Idk if that is something fixed with newer free coasters…… And I love a nice sounding cassette..

Then you will have both and can swap the back wheel when you feel like a change.
Everytime I ride my FC bike I think “I love FCs so much more”.
Then I ride my cassette and think “cassettes are the best”.
Truth is, it’s great to have both.
Tbh, ride chainless at a park for a bit.
If you want to progress to the highest level and do fakie tricks with any sort of speed freecoaster is the way to go. Not many pros doing fakie tricks over stairs sets or other big obstacles with a casstte. May as well learn some cassette first which you seem to have done but freecoaster will give you so much more freedom with tricks you can do going backwards. Takes a bit to get used to like any new trick, but I switched years ago and will never go back.
