Got back into biking a few months ago when I bought this Fuji Absolute 1.7 on Facebook marketplace. The man I bought it from recently got it tuned up before he sold it. Is that a yearly thing?

I’ve been tinkering on my bikes for so long that the tune-up is constantly ongoing
Heavy use: every 6 months.
Normal/casual use: once a year.
I do it about once a year. I should take care of my bike better but I have two little kids to take care of. When they’re a bit older in a couple of years I’m gonna do a massive overhaul. My wheels, cables, and calipers are gonna be towards the end of their life in the next couple of years.
I just do it myself occasionally but I always neglect headset, hubs, and BB. I should learn now to do it or get it serviced more ofte
I do things like cleaning and lubing the chain myself, fix a flat here and there, but I generally take it in at the end of the season for a service. I ride about a hundred miles most weeks between mid April and mid October so a tuneup seems to last pretty good.
I’ll turn my hand to other repairs and adjustments if needed but I’m not nearly as good as the people at the shop.

Never, really. I clean and lube my chain monthly on my road bike, bleed the brakes when I change the pads and just do periodic general maintenance as it comes up
Most of it I do myself, but I like to bring my bikes (Gravel and road) to get serviced at the beginning of spring.
I just tune whatever part feels like it needs it when it needs it.
However if you’d rather have it done at a shop, once a year isn’t a bad way to go.
Probably depends on mileage. I need a new chain every four to six months, 3,000 to 4,000 miles.
If I am going to have the bike in the shop to get a new chain, I am probably getting a tune up.
If you learn to work on your own bikes, it’s just a case of keeping an eye on things and attending to stuff when necessary.
