Painted suggestion of where to ride in Sydney, Australia. A problem is drivers think this is a bike lane and must be used and can get frustrated if cyclists dont use it.
Looks like a great way to get doored and take a trip to the hospital

If it were me I’d bike on/slightly to the right of the solid line and pretend not to hear people whining

Opening a door to traffic in my jurisdiction is a crime. And if it causes an injury, it will result in a charge.

It is a bike lane. Whether it’s a good idea to use such a bike lane instead of the road is a different question.

Aside from being on the wrong side of the road and all the cars pointing backwards, it looks like most bike lanes in the US.
Edit: This is how I gamble with my life everyday on my way to and from work.

No, take the lane of traffic to avoid being doored.
Or, if you are adventurous and have a high threshold for pain, use the bike lane until you get doored and then try to sue the city.

I do all the time but I’m riding on the white line and I’m on a street that’s not too busy. You’ll have to decide if the lane is more dangerous or if the road is more dangerous. WIthout knowing how much traffic there is and how often people intentionally try to hit you it’s hard to say.
Personally, considering that I see no one else on the road I’d be a foot or so right of the white line.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania specifically tells you not to ride there. 1m minimum away from parked cars.
Does the dashed line on the left mean it is only a bike lane if there are no cars parked there? Obviously it is not to demark a parking area as ALL the parked cars cross the line.

If you don’t ride people don’t understand how dangerous this is! I’d move all the way over to slightly right of the solid white line to take up space and not get doored.

Suggestion? I interpret it as law. I’ve heard that European lanes are on the opposite side to avoid dooring.

There is a sidewalk. Looks like no one is using it. I’ll be on the sidewalk, or just avoid this route altogether.

Me, an American in a major “bike city” where 99% of biking infrastructure looks like this: what’s the problem??
Glad I’m on this sub to have all my international friends to set me straight.

Not for me.
