I posted a few weeks back about a potential sticky freehub. Since then I took the bike in to the Brompton Junction (Covent Garden), the very nice guy there took the bike for a few days and investigated. He said it was a weird one, something he’d not encountered before and whilst he couldn’t figure out the precise cause, it seemed to be fixed by replacing the sprocket set.
It did appear to be working ok for a week or two of commuting, however, over the last couple of days I’ve noticed the signs of the problem recurring… The chain is definitely sagging when I back-pedal and in particular if in kickstand mode when the sprockets barely turn at all (making pedal positioning for the fold difficult)-see video.
The only thing I can think of that has coincided with the issue reappearing now is that I was caught in a short (10 mins) but very sharp downpour on Monday morning… but surely the bike’s designed to handle a little bit of rain!? (Last time it coincided with a clean/degrease/re-lube)
Any thoughts? (Before I have to head back to the shop for the second time in 3 weeks, on a 4 month old bike!)
