Just installed new resin pads and rotor. I was wearing nylon gloves the whole time and did everything I could to avoid contamination. Alao cleaned the rotors with break disc cleaner just to be extra sure. And the result is… squeaky brakes. I thought I have to "break it in" first so I rode it for a few 100kms but its still the same. It also has a bit of play. Exactly the same result on the front brakes as well. What could I have done wrong?

Isopropyl alcohol is safer than brake cleaner… I generally avoid any degreaser / brake cleaner / etc on the discs or pads or pistons.
There are two issues here though:
– For the squeaking, take the pads out and sand them with 100-200 grit sandpaper to remove the top layer and wash them with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure there is no oil or other residue present on the back of the pads or on the pistons. Clean the disc well with isopropyl alcohol.
– For the play, are you certain your lock ring is tight, and your caliper bolts are torqued to spec? Are you certain you bought the correct pads for your caliper? (Sorry to ask kind of dumb questions)
